I like this picture as it shows how trapped we really are. it shows that there is no break from normality and that life is always the same.

the place-name Harlow derives from the Anglo saxon words ‘here’ and ‘hlaw’, meaning “army hill”, probably to be identified with Mulberry Hill, which was used as the meeting place for the district. this information served me well as a base point for my work i decided that if Harlow was important because of mulberry hill why has it been neglected so much in the recent years the deteriorating town needs to be looked after more than ever and it seems as if the residents do nothing about it in one of my photographs i show you a brick wall from the car park next to the college i used an aperture to get my desired effect i made it seems as if the green in the middle part of the photograph was being engulfed by the dark colours of the brick work also showing that there is not much natural beauty left in Harlow. i think that some of my work will relate to popular culture as i think that my generation watches many more horror films now than other generations the picture  of the bogeyman would relate to this as it shows one of the many things that many people can relate to from childhood the unnecessary evil in the world.

At the start of this college year i knew nothing on photo shop i knew how to change the colour of something and that was it but now since i have started to study photography i have progressed very rapidly and now know a lot more than i did and i think that my imagination has been given a boost aswell as i now have more of a technical ability for this subject that i think i can do a lot more and my imagination can run wild and i know ill be able to do what im imagining. My timekeeping hasnt been very good as i have been ill recently and lost track of my work but if i had time i would do some of my work again.

all in all i think my work is pretty decent but i could have done a lot better as i have reached the end of my work and it is not to a very high standard. I think that my photographs that i have taken are quite good and do show the troubles in Harlow today, I think that my best picture is of the bogeyman as it shows so much. i think one of my most powerful photos is of the storm drain I think that this is powerful as it shows that Harlow is stuck behind a cage and cannot progress until it breaks out of the cage.

this screenshot below shows how i made the picture of the the “Bogeyman” at the start of this year I did not know much about photoshop i could do small things such as copy and pasting and changing colours but since i have started studying photography i have learnt so much and I think that the end product of this is quite impressive for a beginner.

social documentary: I think that these pictures come under the context of social documentary as the are all everyday objects that i have changed to show certain things like in my first picture i have taken a picture of a drain i have then edited this in photoshop to emphasize the deterioration in Harlow town centre i brought out the dark in the picture and made it as if it was really dark. the next picture is of the wall outside the journalism building i have edited in a pair of evil eyes and a hand this is social documentary as it also shows the deterioration of Harlow as it shows a creature coming out of  broken and decrepit wall in Harlow. the third picture is of rudi it depicts what the youtj of today do in a place like harlow it shows that because there is nothing to do in harlow the generation of today are getting in trouble and endangering themselves. the fourth picture shows how dangerous a place harlow can be as i have edited the hand to symbolize a bloody hand on a metropolitan police sign to show how dangerous a place Harlow can be. the fifth and last picture shows a brick wall that has been deteriorating over a certain amount of time and this shows how much harlow is cared for by all generations.

this is an example of aperture: The way in which the depth of field has been manipulated to make it seem as if there is only one important flower in the foreground this is called a shallow depth of field.

Tripod

tripods are used to reduce camera movement and they are necessary when slow speed exposures are being made, they reduce movement of the lens and present a sturdy base for the camera to be placed on  this reduces the risk of the photographic images being blurred. this picture taken using a tripod, it is effective as you get the full force of the fireworkswithout the worry of a blurred picture.

Flash

flash is a device used in photography to help illuminate a photo. the flash is mostly used to illuminate a scene that does not have enough adequate light to fully expose the photograph. The flash system is normally built into the camera but on professional studio cameras the flash’s are normally a stand alone unit that are run off of the mains or off batteries if the are running off of mains power the camera is synchronized to the flash unit. An example of a picture that uses flash is below, you can see the flash on the right fire extinguisher. This is a picture that i took myself taking into account were the flash would be and utilizing this, making the picture more effective.

Shutter Speed

shutter speed is the speed in which a image is captured so this image has been captured very slowly.

Digital manipulation ( eg photoshop)

photoshop is a digital manipulation software program there are many different applications for photoshop it has been used for front covers of magazines and photos just to name two. this is an example of a photoshopped photograph:

this picture is all fake all the parts of the the photograph are from different sources for example the shark is from a south african source and the helicopter is from a saudi arabian source.

This photograph was taken by Joey Redmond the picture depicts a still car at a dutch angle, the angle makes the  car look as if it is sliding along the photo making it seem as if it is an action shot of the car in its natural environment. i think this photo is effective as Redmond has made this car seem as if it is first off the line, even though it is in a neutral position. This photograph is applied in a car dedicated magazine called tunerzine this is an effective photograph to have in the magazine as it is a sports photograph and the magazine talks about different motor sports. this photograph can be applied to magazines or advertisements aimed at men as motor sport is mainly a male dominated category of sport.

this is another picture taken by joey redmond it shows another car at a very low dutch angle giving the impression that the car is dangerous the lighting on the car creates the effect that the car has two sides on one side there is a light side that gives the impression it is a good all around car but on the other hand the darker side created by the shadow gives the impression that it is dangerous and should not be provoked. The image should be used in a magazine as it appears to be captured and styled as if it is going to be used in a magazine.

this photograph was taken by the architectural photographer neil duncan this picture uses a worms eye view to give the impression that you are looking up at the sky but the buildings height is blocking it. the composition of the photograph is good as it shows light bouncing off the buildings making it seem as if it is new and an innovation to the city. the worms eye view gives the impression that the buildings are greater than other buildings, these photographs could be applied to advertisements for the building for example if they were apartments or studios it would be a good advertisement as it would make people think that they are better than other apartments.

this is another of many brilliant photographs taken by Neil Duncan it shows a worms eye view as if the photograph is looking up instead of down this type of photograph could be used in architecture to document a new building. the worms eye view give the impression that the buildings are bigger than they actually are because of  the low angle.
